True Home (Manila contact no. +632 404 1464) is a little boutique hotel in Boracay Island’s station 1. The 9-room hotel is fronted by the beach, which means you only have to step out of your room to enjoy Boracay. The rooms are designed to look like a typical Filipino home, furnished with antique lamps, armoires and jars. Room service is available and you can order meals until late at night, as long as the kitchen is still open. True Home accepts Visa and Mastercard for credit card payments.

I wasn’t able to sample this much-acclaimed pastry of Boracay when I went there a few years ago. But I finally got to taste it when someone brought me a dozen of these famous muffins. I’d say Real Coffee’s Calamansi muffins are worth the hype – tastes kinda like Mary Grace’s but the taste is gentler with the sweetness and sourness balanced evenly. The muffin itself is dense, at first glance you wouldn’t think a piece would be so filling. A box of 12 pieces is priced at 560 pesos and individually a calamansi muffin costs 60 bucks a piece.

Puka beach, named after a type of seashell abundant in the area, is a long stretch of beach at the northern part of Boracay Island. The sand here is coarser, compared to the talcum-fine white sand of the main white beach. There are fewer tourists here so you won’t be competing for space when basking under the sun. Near the shore of Puka beach is a row of souvenir shops with shells, lamps and other native handicrafts. There are also good restaurants further up the beach that serve fresh seafood dishes such as crabs in tamarind sauce, prawns in garlic and grilled fish. As for activities, you can rent dune buggies or all-terrain vehicles here.

Boracay is dubbed as the beach capital of the Philippines, which means the main beach can get crowded as thousands of tourists flock here to take a dip in its the blue waters and bask on its talcum-fine white sand. But the great thing about Boracay is that it has several beaches, some of which you can have for yourself at a given tome. At the opposite side of the touristy white beach, is Bulabog. Bulabog beach is a destination for wind surfers and kiteboarders. There are several food shacks along the shore so getting hungry won’t be a problem, plus you get see surfers in action while eating.

The Chori Burger is a popular beach food in Boracay. It is made with of grilled Chorizo, a type of sausage, slapped between two bread buns. Though several food outlets now serve this kind of burger in Manila, of course it is best to have the original in Boracay.

The unofficial summer capital of the Philippines, Boracay Island is jam-packed in summer months, you would think the whole of Manila has descended here to cool-off. It is famous for its ubiquitous white sand beach, night life and tropical fruit shakes.
It has also become a foodie’s paradise with restaurants catering to different palates. Almost every kind of cuisine is available in the island: Filipino, Japanese, Mexican and Greek. The several restos can be found in along the beach and some are the island mall, where you can also get souvenir shirts.

Jonah’s Fruit Shakes concocts the best tropical fruit shakes in Boracay. They serve different flavors of shakes that include mango, melon, banana, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, avocado, pineapple and papaya. The shakes come in tall and heavy glasses– if you’d like to take your shake to go, Jonah’s staff will be more than happy to pour them into handy little PET bottles.
I really like their Melon-Mango shake which is very refreshing. What’s your favorite?
