Earth Hour 2009

What started as an event in Sydney, Australia is now a global movement. Last year nations all round the world heeded the call to switch-off lights against global warming. This year, let’s make it bigger. Now is another chance to make a difference. Tell your friends to take part in Earth Hour 2009 by switching off lights for an hour on March 28, 2009 Saturday from 830 PM to 930 PM. With the meeting of world leaders in December 2009 in Copenhagen this action will send a strong message on tackling climate change issues. Man Proposes To Girlfriend In Manila Airport

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila was stirred with a pre-valentine’s day drama when a man proposed to his girlfriend, a flight attendant, upon landing from South Korea. The male nurse proposed marriage to his girlfriend of two years complete with a brass band and a tarp held by the couple’s friends. The airport crowd seemed to be sympathetic when they asked the couple to kiss, while some were teary-eyed. As for the airport officials, they are quite glad for the couple to have had a memorable event in their airport.

2009 Clark Hot Air Balloon Festival

This year’s Hot Air Balloon Festival will see 25 countries participating, which means there are more hot air balloons to see! Aside from hot air balloons, there are aircraft stunts, paragliding exhibitions, skydiving demonstrations and other activities. Longest Rice Cake Display

To celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, a mall in the Philippines exhibits what has been billed as the “longest display of glutinous rice cakes ever made.” The Chinese traditionally celebrate the start of the lunar calendar with these sticky rice cakes in the hope of good luck sticking around the new year. The display consists of 5,000 rice cakes spread on top of a table around Chinese characters that say “Happy New Year!”

PETA activists might raise their eyebrows, but this bag actually sends a message to those people who use dogs as fashion accessories. Supposedly based on Paris Hilton’s dog, Tinkerbell, this purse was made to look like a dead dog tied to a stick.
